Resort Grounds Specialist
RESORT GROUNDS SPECIALIST DESCRIPTION
Reports to: General Manager | FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time or Part-Time
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Resort Grounds Ranger is a hands-on team member to help keep the resort safe, beautiful, and guest-ready year-round. This is a year-round outdoor role with varying seasonal responsibilities. In the winter, this role focuses on snow removal and ice management. Snow shifts may include overnight or early morning hours during storms with light maintenance responsibilities while not performing snow removal duties. In warmer months, hours are more consistent with daytime grounds and maintenance work. In the warmer months, responsibilities shift to lawn care, landscaping, and light maintenance. This position plays a key role in creating a positive guest experience by maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across the resort.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Winter Season
- Operate snow plow trucks, skid steers, and snow blowers to clear roads, lots, and walkways.
- Shovel and de-ice entrances, stairs, and other high-traffic areas.
- Apply salt, sand, and other materials to reduce ice hazards.
- Perform routine equipment checks and light repairs.
- Respond promptly to snow and ice events, often during early mornings, nights, or weekends.
Spring–Fall Season
- Mow lawns, trim edges, and maintain landscaped areas.
- Plant, water, weed, mulch, and care for flowers, shrubs, and trees.
- Maintain walking paths, outdoor seating areas, and recreational spaces.
- Operate small equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
- Maintain, clean and store rental inventory including golf carts, bikes and pedal karts.
Light Maintenance (Year-Round)
- Perform basic repairs such as fixing signs, painting, or replacing light bulbs.
- Assist with upkeep of outdoor furniture, fencing, and amenities.
- Report larger maintenance needs to the appropriate team or supervisor.
- Support special projects, seasonal setups, and general resort upkeep.
- Administer propane fills for motorhomes and 20-3-40 lb canisters.
- Winterization and start up of seasonal features.
- Use of small to mid-size gas powered equipment
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Experience with snow plowing, lawn care, or light maintenance preferred
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Reliable, hardworking, and adaptable to seasonal needs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- General knowledge of janitorial work and grounds maintenance
- Proficient skills in operating various hand tools, power equipment, and commercial machinery
- Ability to work well independently as well as on a team
- Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to use email and internet
- Availability to respond to resort needs during non-business hours while on-call
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Comfortable performing physical tasks such as shoveling, mowing, raking, and pushing/pulling equipment.
- Able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods.
- Must work outdoors in all weather conditions — including heat, rain, snow, and cold.
- Capable of operating equipment safely for extended periods.
